Toxins of a certain bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) cause vomiting, which
can be combatted by activation of the CB1 receptor, Japanese researchers demonstrated
in animal studies. Toxins of this bacteria are the major cause of food poisoning
in humans throughout the world. Both antagonism at the 5-HT3 serotonin receptor
and activation of the CB1 receptor by cannabinoids were effective in reducing
the symptoms. (Source: Hu DL, et al. Cell Microbiol 2007 May 21; [Electronic
