At the recent Spring Meeting, OPN rolled out paid memberships. Historically,
OPN has operated on a completely free basis, relying on grants along with large
and small donations to survive.
The problem is that we have an ambitious agenda. We want legal medicine. We
want people to know how to use this medicine safely and effectively. And, we
appreciate the fellowship and friendship of those who share the necessity and
value of the cannabis plant with us. Under the OPNews article on Strategic Planning
(http://www.ohiopatient.net/v2/content/view/767/2/),
you will see the rudiments of our Strategic Plan and the ambitious ideas we'd
like to implement in the next five to ten years.
Can we do this without paid memberships? Possibly, but volunteers max out,
burn out, and go bankrupt, only setting our goals further behind.
Paid memberships have powerful public effect. Why do CNN or MSNBC call on experts
from the American Heart Association or the MS Society? Because these networks
know that these organizations represent the interests of thousands, if not hundreds
of thousands, of dues-paying members. In sum, we have much more power to render
change if we act collectively as a group --- the larger the group, the better!
Therefore, I ask everyone to please formally join OPN. We have two
introductory membership levels: Individual ($15) and family ($25). We're
temporarily keeping these fees as low as possible so that everyone who can
afford to join or wants to join can do so. Membership are good for one year.
You will be notified as your membership is due to expire.
Checks or money orders can made payable to the "Ohio Patient Network"
and
mailed to:
Ohio Patient Network
P.O. Box 26353
Columbus, Ohio 43226
You may also pay your membership through Paypal. You'll find our "Join
OPN" Link on the top right side of our homepage (http://ohiopatient.net/).
What do you get other than an affiliation with a great organization and a
show of support for a great cause?
Paid members will receive:
- A membership card.
- A quarterly postal-based newsletter (if you give us a physical
address).
- Free or reduced admission to OPN events.
- Access to special information and resources on our Website.
As we evolve paid memberships, we will add more benefits.
For now, why not write that $15 or $25 check and join OPN? Vote your
economic dollars and join so that together we can end the prohibition of our
medicine in Ohio once and for all!
Thank you!
Mary Jane Borden
OPN President
