By JOE MIZER, T-R Staff Writer -- Dover police say it's unusual, but not unheard of, for them to be called to Union Hospital at Dover for a patient smoking marijuana.
Such was the case Tuesday when Ptl. Brian Dessecker was sent to the hospital at about 2 p.m. for a woman who was smoking marijuana in her second floor room. Dessecker said the woman, a New Philadelphia resident, admitted having smoked marijuana prior to his arrival. He said she is to be charged today with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dessecker said the woman posed a danger to herself and others because oxygen was in use in the room. He added the woman claimed the marijuana was self-medication, but her doctor said there was no medical purpose for it. Capt. Brett Swigert said he remembers having been called to the hospital several years ago when a man was smoking marijuana in the intensive care unit. "I couldn't believe it," Swigert said. "I didn't expect to ever get a call like that." http://www.timesreporter.com/index.php?ID=53887 |
