Activist and writer Richard Grossman will be teaching the School with Ben Price (Project Director for the Corporations and Democracy Program of CELDF) and Kat Bundy (Community Organizer, Ohio Democracy School). At the Democracy School, people from across the political spectrum explore this country’s hidden histories, dissect the nation’s environmental, labor, and other regulatory laws, and confront the failure of much activist work. The School is a weekend-long training seminar, during which community members, activists, and municipal officials reframe ostensibly “single issues”—such as development sprawl, gas and oil drilling, siting of hazardous waste landfills—into community campaigns focused on challenging the authority of corporations to make governing decisions on behalf of the people in their communities. The School’s organizing “model” seeks to frontally challenge the authority of a corporate few to make governing decisions on behalf of community majorities. Join us!
