Introduction to OPNSpeak
OPN announces the formation of its new Speakers Bureau, OPNSpeak. We offer trained speakers to talk about the issues surrounding medical marijuana at your meeting or event. The issue of the medicinal use of cannabis encompasses many current and controversial topics that may be of interest if you are planning a meeting or event. Possible themes could include:- State vs. Federal law and what has happened as a result of their collision over medical marijuana.
- The growing interest in and use of herbal remedies.
- Medical liberty. When should the government exercise control over the medications we take?
- Why, in the context of current regulatory environment, medical marijuana isn't yet legal.
- What happens when public opinion and public policy oppose one another.
- Religion, medicine, and marijuana: Are they really distinct from one another?
OPNSpeak members also include patients who can provide first hand testimony concerning what marijuana has done for them and medical professionals who can overview the ailments or conditions for which cannabis-based therapies might be useful.

OPNSpeak members have all successfully completed a six-week speakers training course conducted by professional speaking instructor and coach, Jean Taddie, M.A. Another training session is being planned for the fall. Please check back later in the year for details.

Become a Speaker
SPEAKERS WANTED:
Help OPN support the right of patients to use marijuana
therapeutically in the State of Ohio by joining the OPN Speakers Bureau.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking patients, caregivers, activists, health care
professionals and other concerned citizens who are willing and able to educate
others or who have a compelling story to tell about their experience with
medical marijuana and/or its prohibition. We are also seeking those who have
professional, medical or technical experience with cannabis or cannabis
therapeutics'.
Previous public speaking experience is wonderful, but not
required. Please see our Speakers

TARGET AUDIENCES:
Typically, our audiences include patients, health officials,
legislators, health-care oriented organizations, the media, and the public. As
an OPN speaker, you may be asked to speak at health organization meetings,
legislative hearings, civic debates, pro-marijuana rallies and/or press
conferences.
SUPPORT PROVIDED:
Speakers receive free speech training, educational flyers and
lots of moral support. Our 'Help
for Speakers' link provides comprehensive speech training materials.
The site also includes links to help you with speech building and medical
marijuana research.
As a member of the OPN Speakers Bureau, you will be added to the
OPNSpeak email discussion list. This email list lets you easily connect
with other OPN speakers, including a professional speech coach.
REWARDS:
In addition to a modest cash stipend and mileage reimbursement,
you get the satisfaction of telling your story, sharing your experience and
knowing you helped educate people about the therapeutic qualities of
cannabis. You also share in a community of speakers who support each
other.
